If you’re not already playing HQ trivia you need to start right now. The free iPhone app offers up live trivia twice per day where you can compete with people around the world for actual money.
It’s just as fun as it sounds, but it’s also extremely difficult. You won’t win any money unless you answer all the questions right, either. So if you’re struggling, we’re here to help with the tips that should help you win some actual money with HQ.

Invite All Your Friends to Play

The easiest way to get an advantage in HQ is to get an extra life, and the easiest way to get extra lives is to invite your friends. To do it, just open the app when there’s no live game in progress and hit the Invite button in the bottom left corner—or just ask your friends to sign up for the app with your username.

Stick Around After You Lose

It’s tempting to shut the app in a fit of pique as soon as you get an answer wrong, but it’s worth keeping it open if you can. Not only will you get a better feel for the types of trivia questions to expect in the future, but you might also luck out and win an extra life. HQ occasionally offers everyone who’s playing and watching a prize box, which might just win you an extra life (or it might be empty).

Turn on Notifications

HQ trivia happens every day at 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. EST, but it’s still easy to forget if you get distracted. So just allow notifications, and the app will let you know every time a new game is about to begin. The more games you play, the better your chances of winning, so this one is a no-brainer.

Play With Friends

HQ’s trivia covers a ton of different topics, from tech and theater to sports and science, so it helps to have a group of people playing together. Not only is it more likely that someone in the room will know the answer, but if one person gets eliminated, the entire group still has a shot at winning some cash.

Be Careful What You Say in the Comments

HQ has a fast-paced comments section that’s almost impossible to keep up with, but don’t assume that your crude joke or insult will go unnoticed. I’ve seen players get banned in the middle of a round, so you’re better off keeping it to yourself.
Even better, you can disable the comments entirely—they’re really just a distraction from the actual trivia anyway. Swipe right on the comments section to make it disappear. If you change your mind you can always swipe left to bring it back.
Hopefully, a combination of these strategies (and some decent trivia knowledge, of course) will help you get through an entire round of HQ trivia, and win some free money. Good luck!
